When we’re looking to get sexy, there’s nothing more wonderful than the internet. It’s brimming with ways that make fulfilling our sexiest fantasies with strangers a breeze. You’re looking for a steamy fling, and Local Hookup’s straightforward name promises to deliver just that. But does it live up to that hype, or is this just another online scam?
As soon as the landing page loads, Local Hookup looks like a computer virus waiting to happen. The background is a collage of nearly identical-looking blonde, white women, and the top has a countdown promising
Once you decide to register, you’re quickly greeted by the fact that this site is only made for hetero people. You can either be a man seeking a woman or a woman seeking a man. No gay or lesbian options, no bisexual options, and certainly no trans* options. Once you eventually set up a profile and dig deep, you can change the gender you’re attracted to and have gay/lesbian settings, but it’s difficult to find and still leaves no room for being bi. And as soon as you’re registered, you’re pressured to upgrade to a Gold Membership, which costs a monthly fee.
However, the most insidious thing on their site, hands down, is their language around young-looking women, with a button you can click promising you will “fuck young girls now.” With major scammer vibes and language geared towards pedophiles, nothing about Local Hookup promises anything good from the get-go.
Regardless of your gender, users are immediately bombarded by messages from other eager members encouraging you to meet that day to hook up. It quickly becomes clear that these messages are fake, part of a swindle to make you pay for an upgraded membership. The cold truth of these scams is spelled out for users in Section 10 of Local Hookup’s Terms and Conditions. You can go to their website and scroll to the bottom to see for yourself. Section 10 states that “some of the user profiles...may be fictitious or models or bots related to [the] ‘Love Stars’...program.”
You read that right. These bots and models are there for “entertainment,” and Local Hookup claims they’re part of a plan to encourage activity on the site. But despite what they say, these bots are obviously part of a way to push people to sign up for a Gold Membership, because as soon as you upgrade, those messages all stop, leaving you wondering what you dropped so much money on in the first place.
There are real people on this site looking for a hookup. If you filter the search results to people over thirty-five, suddenly you can find handfuls of eager folks, mostly cougars and silver foxes whose online activity is minimum.
Local Hookup’s perks are few and far between. When you go to someone’s profile, you can see their location on a map, which is both a pro and a con. It’s nice to know if someone is near you, but it can be potentially dangerous to let sex-hungry singles you aren’t interested in know where to find you.
The site also encourages activity online by giving all users a personal score based on things like interactions, connections, and sharing. While an interesting idea, the problem remains that models and bots are the site’s most active users, making it hard to believe that this score really tells you anything.
Finally, if you pay for an upgraded membership, you get access to cam models and porn, which is a good bonus if you forget that Chaturbate’s wealth of sexy and live material is largely free.
It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what “the catch” is with Local Hookup, since the entire site is the catch. At every turn, Local Hookup is pressuring you to sign up for a Gold Membership, promising nearby honeys, lots of sex today, and good porn. However, the Gold Membership costs $39.95 per month (or as low as $19.95 per month if you decide to ignore all red flags and invest in six months up front).
When you sign up, these scammers are eager to drain your bank account as fast as possible: they don’t just start charging you for Local Hookup. You also get involuntarily signed up for additional monthly recurring memberships to
Now, on top of the monthly membership to Local Hookup, your grand total becomes $139.43 per month. To get rid of these charges, you have to cancel all three individually, going through the hassle of navigating each one separately. Between this and the wealth of older folks on this site, Local Hookup is nothing more than a site that preys on the less tech-savvy to make a quick buck.
If you aren’t very careful, this site will cause a lot of humiliation and stress, and drain the hell out of your bank account along the way.
Stay far, far away from Local Hookup. They’re not there to help you get it on – they’re there to steal your money no matter your gender is or where you live. And even if they were a legitimate site, no hookup site that uses language promoting sex with children (even if it’s fake) deserves a millisecond of your screen time. If you’re looking for a consensual, sexy, and authentic good time, try Feeld or Adult Friend Finder instead. Local Hookup gets only a 1/5 stars.
